Common questions

Do I need an account or internet connection?

No account is required. Capture, hash, organize cases, and export basic PDF reports work fully offline. Internet is only needed for optional features: Bitcoin blockchain sealing (OpenTimestamps) and AI-enhanced demand letters (Pro Yearly).

GPS coordinates aren't appearing on my photos.

ProofNest records location only at the moment you press the shutter. Check that Location permission is granted for ProofNest in your device Settings. If you denied permission on first launch, enable it manually under Settings → ProofNest → Location. GPS tagging requires an active location fix at capture time — indoors or poor signal may result in missing coordinates.

My blockchain seal is still pending — is that normal?

Yes. When you seal a case, ProofNest submits a cryptographic hash to the OpenTimestamps calendar server. Bitcoin confirmation typically takes about an hour. The app will upgrade the receipt once confirmed. If you are offline when sealing, the feature will fail gracefully — try again when you have a connection.

AI demand letters aren't working.

AI-enhanced letters are a Pro Yearly feature and require an active internet connection. If the feature is unavailable, the app falls back to template-based letters that work offline. AI letters send case text to Anthropic's API — they never include your photos or GPS data. If generation fails, check your connection and try again.

How do I restore my Pro subscription on a new phone?

Open Settings → Restore Purchases. Subscriptions are tied to your Apple ID or Google account, not a ProofNest account. Your evidence cases do not sync between devices — they are stored locally on each phone. Export PDF reports before switching devices if you need to transfer documentation.

What happens to my evidence if I delete the app?

All cases, photos, GPS records, and hashes stored on your device are permanently deleted when you uninstall ProofNest. We have no cloud backup and cannot recover your data. Export PDF reports before uninstalling if you need to keep copies. Hashes already submitted to the Bitcoin blockchain remain in the public ledger — they cannot be reversed.

Deadline notifications aren't appearing.

Enable notifications for ProofNest in your device Settings. In the app, go to Settings and confirm Deadline Alerts is toggled on. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device — ProofNest does not use a push notification server. On iOS, check that Focus modes are not silencing alerts.

I need a refund.

Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com (iOS) or play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions (Android) to request a refund. NerdSnipe Inc. does not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds on Apple's or Google's behalf.
