ProofNest Privacy Policy

Your evidence stays on your device. Optional features are clearly labelled before they send anything off your phone.

The short version

  • Evidence — photos, GPS, hashes, case details — is stored on your device only.
  • No account required. No analytics SDKs, ad trackers, or crash reporting to our servers.
  • AI demand letters send text to Anthropic only when you explicitly tap Generate.
  • Blockchain sealing submits a cryptographic hash (never photos) to OpenTimestamps.
  • Payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your payment details.

Summary

ProofNest is a mobile evidence documentation app for iOS and Android, published by NerdSnipe Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how ProofNest handles information when you use the app.

We do not operate a backend server that receives or stores your evidence. ProofNest does not require an account, does not embed analytics or advertising trackers, and does not transmit your photos, GPS coordinates, or case files to NerdSnipe Inc. under normal use.

Two optional Pro features — AI demand letters and Bitcoin blockchain sealing — send limited data to third-party services only when you explicitly initiate them. Those transmissions are described in detail below.

Information we do not collect

NerdSnipe Inc. does not collect the following through ProofNest:

  • Account credentials — there is no sign-up or login
  • Your evidence photos, GPS coordinates, or SHA-256 hashes on our servers
  • Usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or behavioral tracking data
  • Crash reports or diagnostics sent to NerdSnipe Inc.
  • Payment or billing information — handled by Apple or Google

We have no visibility into which cases you create, how many photos you capture, or how you use the app unless you voluntarily contact us for support.

Information stored locally on your device

ProofNest stores all core evidence data exclusively on your phone or tablet. This data is not synced to a cloud service operated by us.

SQLite database

Case metadata is stored in a local SQLite database, including case names, types, descriptions, deadlines, recipient details you enter (name, address, phone, email), photo records (timestamps, GPS coordinates, SHA-256 hashes, notes), and blockchain seal status (Merkle root, receipt, confirmation timestamps).

Photo files

Captured photos are copied to the app's private document directory (proofnest-photos/). A SHA-256 hash is computed immediately after capture and stored alongside the photo record. Photos are not uploaded to our servers.

App preferences

Local preferences — theme setting, onboarding status, subscription tier, deadline alert toggle, and documentation checklist progress — are stored in on-device storage (AsyncStorage). This information never leaves your device.

Device permissions

ProofNest requests the following permissions, all processed on-device:

  • Camera — to capture evidence photos within the app.
  • Location (when in use) — to record GPS coordinates at the moment you press the shutter. Location is not tracked in the background or outside photo capture.
  • Contacts (optional)— if you tap “Pick from Contacts” when creating a case, the system contact picker lets you select a contact to auto-fill recipient name, phone, email, and address. Only the fields you select are copied into your case record locally. ProofNest does not upload your contact list.
  • Notifications — to deliver local deadline reminders (T-7, T-3, T-1, and day-of). Notifications are scheduled on your device; we do not operate a push notification server.
  • Photo library (iOS) — if you save or access photos through system dialogs, governed by your explicit action.

AI demand letters — optional (Pro Yearly)

AI-enhanced demand letters are an optional feature available to Pro Yearly subscribers. When you tap to generate an AI letter, ProofNest sends a request to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com) containing:

  • Case name, type, and description
  • Recipient name and address you entered
  • Demand amount and photo count
  • The template letter text (including factual details from your case)
  • Your selected tone (Professional, Firm, or Final Notice)

No photos, GPS coordinates, SHA-256 hashes, or image files are sent. Transmission occurs only when you explicitly request AI generation. If you never use this feature, nothing is sent to Anthropic. Anthropic's privacy policy governs how they handle API request data.

Blockchain timestamping — optional (Pro)

When you tap “Seal on Bitcoin Blockchain,” ProofNest computes a Merkle root — a single SHA-256 hash derived from the hashes of all photos in the case — and submits that 32-byte value to the OpenTimestamps public calendar server (alice.btc.calendar.opentimestamps.org).

This hash is a mathematical fingerprint. It cannot be used to reconstruct your photos or reveal their content. The hash is subsequently recorded in a Bitcoin transaction as a public, immutable timestamp. Once submitted, this record cannot be reversed — which is the intended tamper-evident property of the feature.

The OTS receipt and confirmation status are stored locally in the app. Anyone can independently verify the timestamp using the public OpenTimestamps tools.

PDF reports and sharing

PDF evidence reports are generated entirely on your device. When you share a report, it is sent through your chosen method (email, messaging, AirDrop, etc.) via the system share sheet. ProofNest does not receive copies of shared reports and has no access to your recipients.

Subscriptions and payments

ProofNest offers a free tier, per-case unlocks, and Pro subscriptions (monthly and yearly). All purchases are processed through Apple In-App Purchase (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android). We do not receive, process, or store your payment card details or billing address. Subscription status is verified through the respective app store and cached locally on your device.

Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Apple's and Google's privacy policies govern purchase data they collect.

No analytics or tracking

ProofNest does not include analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or usage telemetry. We do not track which features you use, how often you open the app, or which case types you create. No crash reporting service is currently connected — errors are handled locally within the app.

If we add analytics or crash reporting in a future update, this policy will be revised and the “Last updated” date will change before the update ships.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete individual photos or entire cases at any time from within the app. Deleting a case removes associated photos, GPS records, and hashes from your device. Uninstalling ProofNest permanently removes all locally stored data.

We cannot recover deleted evidence — there is no cloud backup. The one exception: SHA-256 hashes already submitted to the Bitcoin blockchain via OpenTimestamps remain in the public ledger permanently and cannot be reversed.

Support requests

If you contact us through the ProofNest support page or by email, any information you voluntarily provide (such as your email address, device platform, or a description of your issue) is used solely to respond to your request. That correspondence is separate from the ProofNest application and is not collected automatically by the app.

Children's privacy

ProofNest is designed for adults managing legal, property, or consumer disputes and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used an optional third-party feature in a way that transmitted data, contact us using the details below.

Legal basis and your rights

Because we do not operate servers that store your evidence, there is no case data for us to access, correct, port, or delete on our systems. Data protection laws such as PIPEDA (Canada), GDPR (European Union), and CCPA/CPRA (California) may apply to voluntarily submitted support correspondence and to data processed by third parties (Anthropic, OpenTimestamps, Apple, Google) when you use optional features. Contact us to exercise applicable rights regarding support communication.

App Store privacy label guidance

For App Store Connect and Google Play Data Safety declarations:

  • NerdSnipe Inc. does not collect datafrom ProofNest on our own servers. Select “Data Not Collected” for data types NerdSnipe receives directly.
  • On-device data (photos, location at capture, user-entered case details) is stored locally and not transmitted unless you use an optional feature described above.
  • Third-party transmission occurs only when you initiate AI letter generation (text to Anthropic) or blockchain sealing (hash to OpenTimestamps).

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of ProofNest after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
