Common questions

Do I need an account to use SealDesk?

No. SealDesk has no account system. Your journal is stored on your device by default, with an optional end-to-end encrypted sync between your own Apple devices via iCloud if you choose to turn it on.

ID scanning isn't reading the barcode or MRZ.

SealDesk uses VisionKit to read driver's license barcodes and MRZs. Make sure the ID is well-lit, flat, and fully in frame, with the barcode or MRZ facing the camera. If a scan can't be read, you can always enter the fields manually — nothing is uploaded either way, scanning runs entirely on-device.

Voice entry isn't picking up what I say.

Voice logging uses on-device Speech and requires microphone permission. Check that microphone access is enabled under Settings → SealDesk. Speak clearly and pause briefly between fields — background noise at a signing table can reduce accuracy. You can always fall back to manual entry for any field.

Why is SealDesk asking for a thumbprint on this entry?

Thumbprint capture is triggered automatically by your commission state's rules — for example, certain document types in California require one. This is handled by the built-in state ruleset for your commission state and isn't something you can disable if your state requires it for that act type.

A field I expect isn't showing up for my state.

SealDesk currently ships built-in rulesets for California, Texas, and Florida. Fields, thumbprint triggers, and fee caps adapt automatically based on the primary commission state set in your profile. If your commission state isn't one of these three yet, some state-specific fields won't appear — let us know which state you need via the form below.

How does the integrity check work?

Every journal entry is sequentially hash-chained with CryptoKit as it's locked. The integrity check re-verifies that chain and flags anything out of sequence. Run it any time from Archive → Integrity Check, and export the attestation if you need to show it to someone.

My data isn't syncing between my iPhone and my Mac.

Sync is opt-in and off by default. If you've enabled it in Settings, confirm the same Apple ID is signed in on both devices and that iCloud Drive is enabled. Sync is end-to-end encrypted between your own devices — it can take a few minutes, especially right after enabling it.

How do I restore my trial or subscription on a new device?

SealDesk's trial and subscription are handled entirely through Apple's App Store / StoreKit and are tied to your Apple ID, not a SealDesk account. On a new device, open Settings and choose Restore Purchases while signed into the same Apple ID.

What happens to my journal if I delete the app?

Deleting SealDesk removes the local copy on that device. If you had iCloud sync enabled, remove SealDesk's iCloud data via iOS/macOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage to remove the synced copy as well. We have no server-side copy and cannot recover data after both are deleted.

I need a refund.

Purchases are processed by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund. NerdSnipe Inc. does not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds on Apple's behalf.
